Is This Your Life?

As part of an ongoing collaboration with The Performance Foundation at Kings College, London, F&H now turn their attention to 22 Kingsway, a speculative office building, designed by Lewis Soloman, Kaye & Partners in 1960, that intriguingly incorporates a large theatre in its basement. At the invitation of The Twentieth Century Society, and to mark the building's recent incarnation as The Virginia Woolf Building (Department of Arts & Humanities, King's College, London) they have developed some 'artists notes' to provide an insight into the early stages of their creative process. The 'notes' have been published as a separate insert, with accompanying partnership profile, in C20 magazine, issue 3 2014 - on sale now. Launch event to be announced

*** Just numbered, no name, 22 was a speculative building in tune with the temperament of it time, entrepreneurial not Imperial, casual not formal, openly planned - a permissive building, space for hire, provocatively short term. Unlike Richard Seiffert's sophisticated Space Building opposite, it eschews haute couture Y-beams for a more off-the-peg look - a building for the Burton's suit generation.
